Those YouTubers. I was recently involved in a group email discussion about the return of the draft. The vets, for their various reasons, were all in favor of it. The first of those clips illustrates a major reason I think the draft should be reinstituted.

With the all-volunteer military, we have evolved into an "us" and "them" view of the military. "Us" is the citizenry at large, "them" are the people in uniform. "Them" are not part of "us" but are, rather, somehow alien from "us." We have developed a disconnect between the citizenry and the military; at best, the people in the military (if they are really people at all) are to be admired from a distance, they have little or nothing to do with our lives. While a certain segment of the people in military towns have always had disdain for the troops, or saw them as marks to be fleeced, in most of the country, everybody knew someone who was serving or had served, and many young men saw military service as a necessary rite of passage.

The soldier in that trailer was an obvious "them," having little or nothing to do with "us."

My dad favors a draft too. Think about it, you don;t get criminals. I read a story on BBC about a soldier shooting at the Quran for fun (That is Islams "Holy Bible") In a draft you get the best of the best. I favor a draft. Even though I am againist the war.

 

So where is Dan the man? Havent seen him latley? Oh, guys I got my drivers license. Party at eric's place? He's loaded well it's really his brothers pad but who cares. Hey, do you all wanna go on a roadtrip?
