A Bright and Shine Lie...

Uh, oops. I meant "A Bright and SHINING lie."

Positively the only movie that got me pissed off, and I mean REALLY pissed off. I mean, I did some research on John Vann to get the facts straight, but Mein Gott! What the hell was really happening over there?

Teufel:  Is that the HBO movie with Bill Paxton as John Paul Vann? I haven't seen the movie.  I like Paxton as an actor but the real Vann was an ambiguous personality.  I was there at the same time he was but up north of the Delta, in the Vietnamese army's 5th Division's tactical area.  In those days the Mekong Delta was the hot spot of the war and you may recall in January 1963 when a Viet Cong main force battalion made a stand down there at a place called Ap Bac, inflicting heavy casualties on the South Vietnamese army.  That battle is often seen as a turning point in the war, when the enemy began to take the initiative and stand up to ARVN's superior firepower.
