wow, nice, so they could deploy marines in a matter of hours not days...that will just about freak out all the other countries...hehe

Oh boy that sounds like a treat. A squad of FR guys fly out of Vandenburg and land in the middle of Iran. Mayhem and chaos ensue. Imagine if we could get an entire MEF up in space like that and drop them on Kim Jong Il's backdoor. Freakin sweet.

After the failed Gallipoli campaign in WWI, all the world's military said that amphibious operations against defended shores were impossible. Except for the US Marines, who spent a goodly amount of time and effort during the 1920s and 1930s developing both amphibious tactics and landing craft.

During the late 1950s and early 1960s, the US Marines developed what they called "vertical envelopment." The army later adopted it and changed it to vertical assault.

So its only natural that the Marines will be the first to develop space insertion.

PS. Before John Glenn became the first American to orbit the Earth, he was a test pilot and set a cross-country speed record. Before then, he was an ace in Korea.

my favorite WW2 ace will always be Chuck Yeager...the country boy that went on to break the sound barrier...
