CHARLIE BASS
Posted: 26 Mar 08 7:10 PM

OK! I kneed to know something.

I knew the name Charlie Bass from someplace else, when I first read book 1. I couldn't remember for a while where I had heard the name. Then it came to me. Today I heard the name again and now have the resource to ask. Is Charlie named after the character in the movie "The Sands of Iwo Jima"?

Since these stories are a joint effort you'll need David's input to be sure but from my standpoint, no.  I knew an old-time NCO named Charles Bass in VN back in '62.  He was killed at the Ia Drang in '65.  Maybe influenced me when I wrote my contributions to his character but he's an archetype, an influence if you will, of all the good NCOs we've known both in real life and in literature

I picture him looking like Michael Chiklis or Neil McDonough

Here is who Bass looks like to me. With out the scar and a much smaller nose. His name is  Ron Perlman. He played Hellboy in "Hell Boy" I don't know why Bass is like him in my mind, but hey it's my imagination. I wonder what Bass looks like to yall

The Prime Master read the message again. This time, by the time he finished reading, he smiled beatifically. The message included a great deal of information about the Earthman Army and airpower and their tactics. This was inteligence that would serve the Emperor's army well when it next encountered the Earthman Army. As it most assuredly would.......

Ron is an excellent actor whose career I have followed since he was in the TV show Beauty and the Beast. He was also in Aliens 4 as a smuggler and several other scifi movies. But he doesn't have the solid features that a Marine would have in Bass's physique. His persona isn't larger than life. But thats just my take.
