Nick Rowe (Five Years to Freedom) was later a colonel in the army, assigned to the Philippines, where he was killed by Philippine guerrillas. Damn shame.

Evil One, we suspected your silence was due to misconduct.  Skink-a-Rink was forming  up a commando to come and break you out of the country jail.

But Skinkie forgot he doesn't have a driver's license or a car to drive to you and break you out, so he was recruiting peeps to come get him then go break you out. But we didn't want to drive to Cuba to get him, break out of their jail, fight their army and then come get you...too damn much fightin, and not enuff pb&j to make the trip.

I always figured Charlie Bass was more, lean. I mean you see most soldiers in those photos, outside of the fatigues most of them are lean buggers.
Lean muscles, like triatheletes, sorta-kinda. They have to lug heavy stuff but they also have to crouch and run and dodge and weave so the whole body I guess is worked into a finely-tuned machine rather than focusing on just upper body strength.
As to actors to play him, I do kinda like Erik Palladino (SSgt Silas from “Over There”) or Casper Van Dien as Captain Ramsey in “Under Heavy Fire/Going Back”.
