What the Skinks are

So my major is Genetics and when i read the series the skinks fasinate me so i decided to try to break down what their society is scientifically. Here it goes:

We know the skinks use some sort of gentic enigneering due to the fact that each class in their military is bread for the task. Warriors are bred to kill but not to question or give orders. Leaders are bread to think and give orders but not much beyond that. Masters have the same inteligence as humans. Of course their are excpetions to this as we read about the warrior who was as intellignet as a leader. This lead me to the conclusion that Skinks arn't sofisticated with their understanding of genes because of the warrior with the mutation. If they where genetically engineered there wouldn't be mutations like that (Even with modern technology we could have detected the mutation). I believe they use selective breading to get warriors, leaders, and masters.This also means that the skinks civilan population may be bred for specific tasks. But until i see more about skink society i can't make any more assumtions. so what do you think? (Please excuse any spelling errors, i'm tired.)

Well think about it Stilgar2300 (Ever see Star hunter 2300?) even human genetics are messed up. Look at other species on Earth, such as well humans for example. We always get genes we don't want. Take me for example: I'm gonna have snow white hair because my father has snow white hair, so there's one aspect of it.

However, I disagree with you on the civi population. Why bred a civi pop? Really why breed a civi who will collect rice from the rice paddies (The skinks eat rice?) Or why breed a Skink fisherman? I assume they breed their own army and navy, but they have to be trained. Similar to clones expect these are not clones. Well in a way. That's another topic all together.

What is really interesting is the Skink political world. The Emperor, the living god couldn't even ask "Where did this grand master die?" I presume that the Prime Master is the one who is pulling the strings, and leaving the emperor in the dark about the war with the "Earthman".

If the emperor is the one who is really in charge, why not lead his own troops into a battle? Ceaser did it, Napoleon did it, and they were large political figures at the same time.

Also, have you ever taken into the account of the propaganda the Skink news (I assume the skinks have tv news since they had camaras in book 13) They probably have shots of the marines killing many many Skinks. Now, I assume that the Skink news does not have a human so they probably have actors?

Or maybe the Skinks recorded their actions this time, sent them with the Drones so the civi pop would be brain washed?

The message included a great deal of information about the Earthman Army and airpower and their tactics. This was inteligence that would serve the Emperor's army well when it next encountered the Earthman Army. As it most assuredly would.......

Good speculation, guys. You're missing some points, but you aren't exactly wrong on anything you've come up with.

This is reminding me some what of the genetic altering in Brave New World... with the Alpha and Betas and so forth translating into different rank of skinks... though atleast the skinks don't high then have orgies as a religious ceremony....
