I did it on Steel Gauntlet and before I turned it in I had to read it out loud to the whole class.

which that right there is hell for me becuase I have the worst stage fright.

but besides that I think that i got a good grade.

Ultra, well, I, for one, am very flattered!  We had a lot of fun writing that particular book.  Would like to see your report someday.  I know, getting up in front of people like that can be very flustering but at least you knew the people if only slightly and they were all probably fidgeting in their seats anticipating their own time on the stage.  We know, we've been through it too.

StarFIST: Steel Gauntlet

By: David Sherman and Dan Cragg

Summary: In Starfist: Steel Gauntlet Marston St. Cry attacks a Confederation embassy with tanks. Tanks have not been used in warfare for the last 300 years and no military force has the weapons to destroy them. So to combat this, the Confederation starts to re-make the Straight arrows (the most deadly anti-tank weapon, the same one that caused the tank t become extinct) and recruits Professor Jere Benjamin to stop the mad man. He is one of the only people in the whole universe that knows the most about tanks and armored tactics. So while the confederation marines go to the planet of Diamunde to stop St. Cyr and his legions of tanks, their leadership is not the brightest. For they send them in to the most dangerous place thinking it’s the safest and smartest place to go. So they take many casualties but still cause the dictator to sign a cease-fire but he then captures three of the marines, the ambassador and the professor at a welcoming party in a attempt to have his demands made. So while the marine prisoners escape when the whole complex goes into chaos, they stop St. Cyr and foil his plot for complete dominance.

Review: This is a very well written book and has all of the elements of a good sci-fi book. The plot is very well thought-out and I thought it was cool how the authors decided to have tanks obsolete but then bring them back. It made the marines have a challenge and latterly made then run through a “steel gauntlet”. The setting is the only thing I didn’t like. I didn’t like it because of the way they didn’t describe it much. But they did describe the government and economic systems. So I would recommend this book to anyone who like sci-fi or a good action pack book.

Characters:

Marston St. Cyr- He is the new dictator of the Diamunde government and armed forces. He is a very maniacal man who is not afraid to kill someone to get his way or to put many of his soldier’s lives in danger for mostly crazy ideals.

Staff Sergeant Charlie Bass- He is probably the most respected NCO in the whole 34th FIST. He is about 6’ 2” and has many scars covering his body. The most recent one goes down he left arm no thanks to the nomadic warlord and his knife.

Pvt. Joseph Finucane Dean: He is a Confederation Marine introduced in the first Starfist book. He was initially attracted to the Army by virtue of his father's highly decorated service with that service, but he dumped the Army unceremoniously when seeing a couple of cool looking Marines walk by him on their way back from lunch.

Pvt. MacIlargie: Dean and he are the two marines that are captured by St. Cyr, he also find the ambassador. While his squad was landing on the beaches of Oppalia, he personally destroyed four enemy tanks with his straight arrow.
