It's very difficult for me to identify my single favorite character.  I have a few favorite characters, however.  Charlie Bass; Ted Sturgeon; Hammer Schultz.

What I like about the Hammer is his air of quiet danger.  Ted is the best combat commander I have ever read about --- possibly excepting real-life US Army Col. "Paddy" Flint. Charlie is clearly one of the best small unit leaders in the Confederation Marines.

NICE....some chatter.  Glad you chimed in BurroB.  Another member of the Claypoole Fan Club...whoo hoo!  Good call on Doyle pfcdan, he really has come a long way.  Don't be shy gentlemen and put a little something down about yourself in the Introductions Thread.  Till Barb does SlimFast....make mine STARFIST!

pfcdan789 - great choices!  Yay, another Dean fan!  :)

I like your choice of Owen, burrob31.  He's one of mine as well.  I'm interested in learning how well Bass is doing as an officer (in his own opinion and other Marines' opinions).

Well, ladies, if you like Dean you like David and me 'cause there's some of us in him.  Now, Bass, he'll do just fine as an ossifer, a bit crusty maybe and full of old NCO tricks, but his Marines will love him.

As to Owen, well in Book XXII, he falls asleep on Captain Conorado's bunk and during the night when the Skipper rolls over he squashes the little bugger. Full military honrs at his funeral, of course, we'll have you all in tears and gnashing your teeth, those of you who will have any left by then.   But in Book XXXI it turns out that Woos are hermaphrodites and Owen is replaced by Son of Owen who has been gestating quietly in the messhall since his daddy's tragic demise.

No, Owen's gonna stick around for a while.  He's sort of a "Greek chorus" for Conorado and we need him in that role.  We decided early on to make him turn old and wobbly so he'd be more like us but he isn't going to die anytime soon, if at all.  So now dry your eyes and get back to making money so you can buy more of our books.

Hey, that's what we're good at.  But, darn it, we can read them faster than you can write them, even with the pair of you working together, so you better get with the hustle, soldier!  I've gotten a bit hard up with the draaaaaggggged out way you're getting Starfist XII out, and so I've taken to buying used (and out-of-print) David Sherman Viet-nam books to try to feed the addiction.  And as I may have pointed out in the Night Fighters forum, he likes cliff hangers there, too!
