Would anyone think any less of me if I said Owen? I wish I had a Woo.

However, Bass, Shultz, Dean, Conorado, Sturgeon, Aguinaldo, Claypoole, McIlargie, and Kerr are all pending as my favorites. I just couldn't decide, as I would be very saddened as I feel a connection with all of them, even if they are fictional.

There was a novel years and years ago, called Silverlock, which was about an island somewhere where all the characters and settings that had been written about in fiction lived and carried out their lives (again and again).  The novel was about a guy who accidentally fell off a passing ship and washed up on shore only to find himself inadvertantly involved in an Irish war featuring High King Brian Boru; after making it through the battle alive he moved on, eventually meeting and interacting with Robin Hood, Ivanhoe, and a number of other fictional characters.

So, apparently there is a place where all our fictional characters live in real life as we read about them.  Just try to get there, though.

No one will think any less of you for saying Owen is your favorite character.  He's one of mine.  Owen rules!

The characters in these books are great and there are many that are on my list.  In my earlier post I listed those that are at the very top of the list though.

SW: Well, that is quite a compliment to both of us.  The Starfist books are character-based novels and it is very heartening to an author when fans confirm that the characters strike them as not only real, but so real they feel a connection with them.

When I started the series I assumed it would be about Dean more than it actually is - so I kind of latched onto him as my eyes into this new universe - as a result, he was my favourite by default.  Since then of course it's become less about Dean and more about the unit as a whole - this isn't a bad thing, just not what I was expecting.

I didn't like Charlie Bass to start with, but since book III he's really grown on me and I would probably say he's now my favourite, although I still enjoy Dean and Owen the Woo.  I know I got annoyed when Pasquin kept picking on Dean in book IV. :-)
