Straight Arrow

Since the subject of weapons comes up...

The Straight Arrow seems a darned fine weapon, unless you're using it defensively from close quarters, in which case shooting one is an act of self-immolation.

Somebody in the Confederation munitions industry needs to resurrect a fine anti-tank (in fact, anti-hard target) weapon that the US military now uses.  I am racking my brains to remember what it's called (saw it on the Discovery channel), but it is a man-portable guided weapon.  The shooter locks it on target, presses the firing lever, whereupon the missile pops out of the tube with NO backblast (just an expelling charge -- like an RPG), ignites its main engine, goes UP into the air and attacks its target from above.  Great for popping armor on the top of turret or engine compartment where it is thinnest.  It is also fire-and-forget.  They showed a video of it being used against a building in Iraq where a sniper had just opened up.

Slick.

the anti armor weapon is called the Javelin. the army and marines are using it in Iraq. Like you said, a small charge pops the missile about 10-15 ft from the tube. then its main thruster ignite and it goes up up up and down down down and BOOM!!! anyways, you would think the marines would have been able to resurrect a missile launcher like that: no backlash. they can fire it in small places.

those marines need a fine, reliable anti-armor weapon such as the Javelin.

PS, i know a guy who works for ITT who works for the Government. He has a video of a laser designation system in action. After it painted the target, an Apache Gunship came out of nowhere and obliterated it.

Here's another weapons' question. Why was it that only the Deutsche on Wanderjahr (or where-ever) in book 2 had caseless weapons? I see an almost striking resemblance to reality there. The US military had ripped the G-11 from H&K, and we dropped it... then some American created a gun where the only moving parts are the trigger and the bullet.

Gott, I love electricity... And guns.

I believe it was the police in Brosigville on Wanderjahr who had the caseless handguns.  Those weapons appear again in the war on Ravenette and still again in RECOIL, No. 3 in the force-recon spinoff series.  TP, watch out or you will get a full jolt of electricity when they strap you into that chair for using your guns promiscuously.
