Patton

I was just watching the film, "Patton," a few weeks ago. One of the factoids about the film was that Gen. Patton believed in reincarnation - specifically, that he had been at many battles over the past several centuries.

I think it'd be a nice historical in-joke if a Starfist book included a general who considered himself a reincarnation of Patton... (As long as it's not that idiot, Billie.)

I know Patton was a U.S. Army general, but did he ever have command over Marines?

kb7iuj,

To the best of my knowledge, Patton, an armor officer, never had command of Marines. However, over the years I've known quite a few Marines who thought he would have made a damn good Marine general.

I seem to remember reading that Billie saw himself as a next generation Gen. MacArthur, so maybe he's got that sort of complex as well?

Patton is my favorite war movie.  Scott played that perfectly (got the Oscar to boot).  I love that guy.  Soooooo many great quotes.  Good call kb7iuj.  My grandfather served under Bradley and hated Patton.  He thought Patton was all about the glory and could care less how many men died (which is a little true).  But a great General non the less.

Does anyone remember George C. Scott in "Dr. Strangelove"?  That man could ACT!
