If anyone remembers "Gettysburg", I'd say Jeff Daniels deserves a spot. That was a really good film (I need to rent "Gods and Generals").

Who would you stick in Van Winkle's role?

How old is Van Winkle anyway? I was thinking that Willam Dafoe from Platoon and The Boondock Saints should be in there somewhere.

Just thought of who Christopher Lee would be: St. Cyr from Diamunde (third book).  He makes a good bad guy.  I don't know if the age works though...

Yes, Christopher Lee as St. Cyr!  Another good candidate might be John Lithgow or maybe, John Travolta or David Warner (he was the Spicer Lovejoy character in Titanic, Billy Zane's bodyguard with the stainless steel .45, remember?).  Problem with me is all the actors I really like are a bit too long in the tooth to qualify for parts in an action film.

Yeah, and besides... Eastwood isn't a convincing Marine. Ever see "Heartbreak Ridge."
