Honestly, T S-J, I don't know of anybody else who is writing milSF anywhere near the way Dan and I are. We focus on the enlisted men at the point of the spear; too many other writers treat enlisted men as operatic spear bearers, just there to provide color and get killed. We aren't PC; unlike what just about everybody else does, there are only two instances of women in combat units in all sixteen books we've written in this universe--and they're both crazies. We've had a few space battles, and they're all in planetary space; it would be just about impossible for fleets to find each other in deep space. Look at the Graf Spee in WWII. A large chunk of the Royal Navy searched for her, but as long as she disappeared into the shipping lanes after attacking ships, she was impossible to find. It wasn't until the Brits heard she was in port at Montevideo that they were able to blockade the Rio de la Plata and force her captain to scuttle her.

Glad you like what we do.

Oops. The Graff Spee didn't disappear _into_ the shipping lanes after attacking ships off Africa, she disappeared into the South Atlantic _away_ from the shipping lanes, and thereby became impossible to find by any means other than accident.

Gaffs like that can happen when you've been writing hard for awhile.

That's because the surprise was complete, as it was when the Marines overran the 7th MPs on the coast and brushed aside the blocking force sent out to meet them on the road to Whatsisville.  But  after arriving there, there was fighting enough for everyone.  And once the Coalition's force was beaten, the door to victory had been swung open and Davis's army was chased into the mountains.

But wasn't the 7th MP were bascially undisciplined and they were totally lax. From what I read they basically get drunk and play drinking games.

The 7th MPs were put there as a tripwire and it worked, only when the invasion force came ashore it was a lot stronger than only one marine FIST, which the local commander thought he was up against at first.  You have to remember, General Davis, the rebel commander, considered that part of the coast inaccessible because of the steep cliffs and he felt the division at Whatsisville was powerful enough to counter any thrust toward his rear from that direction because he could reinforce it if needed.  That plan would've worked if Billie had continued sitting on his rear but Cazombi took care of that by relieving him and launching the breakout so Davis couldn't spare any forces to relieve the men protecting his rear.
