I note that Claypoole's dad was in the Confederation Army, and he almost joined the CA before bumping into the Marines and changing his mind.
Are there other military tradition families in the 34th FIST universe? Surely with good recordkeeping (since the 20th century with computers and long-term data storage everywhere) most of the FIST troopers can identify their ancestors who might have served in this or that.
My own family's story contains a lot of service to the United States. I'm former Army -- 8 years in camo -- "rose" to the rank of SGT, although one of my coworkers who is a retired light colonel keeps insisting on calling me "Sergeant Major". Infantry mortars, field artillery forward observer, tactical microwave comm repairer.
My father was a Marine -- he was in the Corps during the interregnum between WW2 and Korea (too young to enlist during WW2). My brother was USAF, our grandfather spent 6 years in the Navy as a hospital corpsman between WW1 and WW2, our great grandfather was a private in a California Infantry regiment in the Spanish-American War, and our great great grandfather was in the US Army during the Mexican War. And that's just my paternal line. Another great grandfather in my maternal line served in the Union Army during the Civil War (though an immigrant from Germany).
It is actually Dean's father that was CA. I would imagine that Bass's lineage has past Marine Corps in it.
Ya it was Dean's father that joined the army and Dean joined the marines. Well, I know some of the marines joined because they want to see the universe and looking for advanture.
