Origin of Names
Posted: 20 Feb 06 9:43 PM

Dan and David:

Ok guys, this has been on my mind for a while.  The starships are named after certain soldiers.  In Book 1 the two that come to mind are CNSS Private Thomas Purdon, which takes the recruits to Arsenault,  and CNSS Lance Corporal Keith Lopez, which takes Dean & co to Thorsfinni's World.  These names, to me, seem very specific and put in print for a reason.  Care to comment?
Also, since we're on how you two come up with certain names, is it possible, when the character tree is complete, you guys could put a little comment on each character as to their origin?  Don't know if that is supposed to a trade sercret or not.  Just an idea.

On a side note Platoon, (have we noticed our registered fan base has out grown Squad strength?)  I have uncovered an interesting fact.  After rereading Book 1 for the character tree, I uncovered a revelation.  Dean's middle name is Finucane.  Does this ring a bell with anyone out there?  Things that make you go hmmmmm.

Deadshot,

Tom Purdom is a science fiction writer, a friend of both of ours, and one of the two people responsible for us meeting in the first place more than thirty years ago.

I was in a Combined Action Platoon in RVN (see the Vietnam War section of my website for more on CAP). Lance Corporal Keith Lopez was a CAP Marine; he was awarded the Medal of Honor, posthumously.

David,

Thanks.  Makes the writing that much more meaningful.

Deadshot:  Yep, all those names mean something to both of us but we can't tell you what until after the character tree is complete because if you knew now you'd be smarter than we are and we'd have to kill you.

There's been a bit of discussion about character names going on in the "Introductions" thread, I thought I'd move it over here.

I'm not one to correct my estemed co-author, you understand *snicker*, but I named Brevet Major Longaway after Russel Longaway, a CAP Marine veteran I know.
