Well, almost never.  We were given an advance look at the cover for FLASHFIRE and we pointed out a mistake in the CMC logo which wasn't corrected.

Sounds craptastic.

Is that just a Del Rey issue or is that industry-wide? It seems to me that you'd want to put your best foot forward on the cover because, let's face it, we all judge books by their covers to some extent. And if you have an author who does good work for you, I just dont see why its so hard to take more direction from them in the art department. They have to draw something, why deliberatly draw what you don't want?

I think the phenom is industry-wide but I'm sure certain authors, big sellers, have more say than guys like us and very possibly the smaller presses give their authors more input.  But there is an art to art, if you know what I mean, a special technique to designing book covers that attract attention and as far as I know, even with our  dissatisfaction with any given cover, what the publisher's been putting on our books hasn't affected sales that much.  Where we think they've fallen down most is in promotion of which there is very little.

I think that Kingdom's Swords had a pretty good description in it somewhere. Should be somewhere in there, because I remember the good Captain Conerado saluting the Royal Marine, United States Marine, and Confederate Marine flag... Stuck me as a very good section that... Whichever one of you wrote that section in, you have my thanks.
