I think that Kingdom's Swords had a pretty good description in it somewhere. Should be somewhere in there, because I remember the good Captain Conerado saluting the Royal Marine, United States Marine, and Confederate Marine flag... Stuck me as a very good section that... Whichever one of you wrote that section in, you have my thanks.

You're welcome.

I'm just curious. How can you reign in controll for your cover art? Or is that something that the author just never presides over?
In the couple dozen books Dan and I, jointly or independently, have had published by one or another imprint of Ballantine Books, we have been shown the drawing for the cover painting a total of one time before the cover was printed. That's no kind of way for the author to make corrections. Over there, they believe the art department knows what sells books, and that the author's opinion would only get in the way. Sort of like Hollywood treats the authors of books they adapt to movies. Some publishers will show the illustrations to authors to get their approval, but they're in the minority. Of course, name authors can insist on getting the cover changed even after it's been printed. Lucky buggers.

The next time you and David go into your publishers office, beg Him/Her to let "Big Dot Design" make your covers. They are done so beatiful they could hang in a art muesem next to the painting of George Washingtion's crossing of the Deleware River. Please, these are the only Cover Art of StarFist that I like.

What does the CMC logo look like?????

What does Dave think of a Skink invasion of Earth?

Have you and Dan won the Hugo award, and has StarFist ever been a N.Y. Times Bestseller?

Is there a lot of input to advertise your books, because I found it while going through the book store one day, not through a newspaper.

I've been to the publisher's office twice in the 21 years I've been dealing with them. I don't think Dan's ever been there. So don't hold your breath waiting for us to drop in anytime soon.

Let's see, Human Space is roughly a sphere two hundred light years in diameter, with Earth approximately in the middle. So far the Skinks have only attacked outlying worlds. Going to Earth would be a major change in strategy for them. Probably not a good idea.

Starfist hasn't won any awards. NYT bestseller list? I wish! I wouldn't be crying poverty if the books sold in that range.

Advertising? What's that?

True, and plus they have no idea where Earth is. Mabey advertise in magazines and on the raido.

Dave, do you like early metal music. Because if you answer yes then you will love a group called "Poison";)

Yeah, Lee Lanning and I went up there once, when we were writing INSIDE THE VC AND THE NVA.  Our editor took us to lunch and we met all sorts of people.
