Interstellar Conflict
Posted: 05 Jan 08 2:06 PM
I was just wondering if you guys (the authors) were planning on writing a book that follows the 34th in a large extra-solar conflict. So we could see all of the Confederations military might against a cluster of militarily and technologically advanced star systems. Sort of like DiamundeX100. Filled with urban, suburban, naval (planetside and in space), forest, and possibly desert spread over a bunch of united star systems. I would enjoy it very much. (my favorite StarFist books are "Steel Gauntlet" and "Flashfire") Just a thought.

There you're getting into the standard never-ending war, in which the author has to keep topping himself with each new book. That eventually leads to repetition, story-line absurdity, and author burnout. I've seen it time and again in other series. Dan and I made the decision in the very beginning that we weren't going to do that. We'd much rather continue with smaller operations that keep us fresh and never force us into repetition or absurdity.

Yeah, I see your point. It could turn into something it isn't. Do you have any plans for the 34th to deploy to an ice planet?

Except for the occasional time when we have a story that takes more than one book (the Kingdom novels, the Ravenette war) we generally don't know what we're going to write until we get together to plot the next book. So, no, we don't have plans to write an ice world book. Or a sea world, or a desert world, or a deep space battle, or anything else. We don't know what we're going to do after the one we're working on now.

If the plot takes place in a sea world then this would remind me of an old computer game: X-Com: Terror from the Deep.
