WOW! That's a lot of fine words you guys have written about DemonTech. I'm touched and honored by you.

Mike, thanks for quoting the passages from my website. That should clear up a lot of misunderstandings. Actually, I've gotten quite a few emails from fans suggesting such things as new publisher, self-publication, ebooks, etc, which I wouldn't have gotten if readers had read the DT future page as carefully as you did.

There is a word of mouth campaign in progress from a number of fans--most notably Mike with this site. My semi-annual royalty statements arrived today, and I read the DemonTech statements with a great deal of interest. They suggest to me that the w-o-m campaign is having some effect. In the previous statement, the sales of Rally Point went in reverse and into the red. In this one, it not only made up the previous reverse, but actually paid me a little more than $100.00 in royalties! (Hey, I write this stuff for a living, and every little bit counts.) In the last statement, it looked like Gulf Run would never earn out its (small) advance. In this statement it almost did, and if it does half as well in the next statement, it'll pay me a few dollars.

So if you guys (and gals) can pump the series to enough others to give DemonTech a good enough sales boost, my agent can take the numbers to the bean counters at Del Rey and maybe convince them that they can make more money if they give me a contract for the rest of the series.

I can't tell you how much it hurt me, and not only financially, when Del Rey cancelled DemonTech. I really like those guys, and really want to finish writing their story.

Thanks for your help.

David

Glad to hear that the word of mouth is having some good effect.  Interesting how Rally Point could "reverse".  I take that means that some retailers had returned or "stripped" a number of copies and reported them unsold -- otherwise how could they reverse?  So, the tide has turned, and that is good.

That's a major task of this site: to pump up sales of Sherman & Cragg books and thus ensure the future survival of Starfist and DemonTech!  From a human perspective, nothing goes on forever, but some things can be extended.

And by the way, the DemonTech section on this site has now been filled with descriptions of all three books.  I'll be putting a little more into that section in the next few days.

Good heavens, this site seems to have become my new hobby.

Mike: Did you think this site would be so popular so fast?  So far, really only 5 or 6 of us chatting it up.  Imagine 50 to 60?  I, for one, am thankful you did!

David:  Ok, what say I hit every bookstore in the Chicago land area and have them special order every copy of Demontech?  Extreme times call for extreme measures!

David:  Do you actually have another book finished in the series and just waiting for the go ahead to publish?  Ya know, I'm going to dig into those books again and find some questions for ya to get this Thread humming.  This series needs some more attention!

Deadshot,

I'm long past the point in my career where I write a book and _then_ try to sell it. However, I do have an outline for the rest of DemonTech, and one chapter of Book 4 written. I did the outline for my agent when he tried to get Del Rey to come up with another contract, and the chapter to help me focus my thinking.
