Amazon Reviews

Just a suggestion: you might go over to Amazon and post reviews of the DemonTech books there.  Feel free to also post your Amazon reviews here, as I am doing:

As a "hard" science fiction fan, I generally avoid fantasy. Sherman's Starfist series has really held my attention, however, and since I saw these DemonTech books on the shelves with Starfist, I thought I would give them a try. I thought that maybe Sherman could achieve the "difficult, if not impossible" task of interesting me in a fantasy series. My word! He did!

Frangerian Marines Spinner and Haft are nearly taken prisoner when the Jokapcul (how do you pronounce that, anyway?) capture the port city in which their ship is berthed. They escape the city and flee away from the Jokapcul "onslaught" (thus, the title of the book). Sherman knows small-unit military tactics very well, and he shows these two marines in very believable and fascinating action as they progress towards hopefully returning to Frangeria. That's the military aspect of the action.

Although I have not read a lot of fantasy, I have read a wide range of authors, so I know some of the "technology" of magic as imagined by the mainstream fantasy writers. However, David Sherman has come up with a completely new "technology" of magic. Magic in Sherman's world of DemonTech is based on numerous kinds of "demons" (creatures with magical properties and abilities), and these demons respond to food, curiosity, kindnesses, and cruelty (but if you use cruelty you better be careful of backlash!). A demon master (or Mage, in Sherman's world) is someone who has knowledge of how to handle them, and not everyone knows how to control all kinds of demons.

The background of the DemonTech world is that in Frangeria, a mage has by use of demons summoned (or magically kidnapped) a U.S. Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant. This "Lord Gunny" trains the Frangerian Marines. Meanwhile, another Mage, the erstwhile Black Prince has summoned a whole pile of U.S. Army Field Manuals, and using these and his expertise in demon handling, turns the Jokapcul Empire into a nearly unstoppable military force. Buy these books -- Lord Gunny Says! -- you will enjoy them!
