??? I could have sworn I already replied to your question, Shadow, but it ain't here, so here goes again.

The first CAPs were in the Phu Bai area. I'm not sure whether Da Nang or Chu Lai came next, but my CAP at Ky Hoa was the first in the Chu Lai area (May, 1966). CAP was an unofficial program until early 1968, when a headquarters and school were established at Da Nang.

I never had any direct contact with Recon, either division or Force, so I never met Jimmy Howard. I am, though, well aware of his story. Camp Howard in the Force Recon books is named after him.
