A Rock and a Hard Place
Posted: 07 Sep 06 10:25 PM

This is the 4th novel in the Night Fighters series, and I have just finished it this afternoon.

CAUTION: Spoiler follows...

The three previous books in the series were quite good, and seem to get better at the series progresses.  If I never managed to find used copies of the final two novels in the series, I could say that No. 4 is the best of the bunch.  Even better than No. 3, where ARVN Captain Phang gets a very well-deserved comeuppance from the villagers whom he was oppressing as Assistant District Chief.  You might say that at the end of the book the good Captain is a man of many parts.  Scattered over a wide area!  Well, that's not much of a spoiler, because it only covers something that seems clear is going to happen eventually in some fashion, except that Tango 9er doesn't get to do the honors.

The Night Figher Series is a set of books that deserves to be republished.

Mike, I saw a copy of A Nghu Night Falls (book 5) offered on Ebay a couple of days ago. Some people who have read all the books tell me Charlie Don't Live Here Anymore (book 6) is the best of the bunch.

Actually, after the first three, I decided to get more realistic in the series. That's probably why you found A Rock and a Hard Place to be better than the previous books.

Thanks for everything, Mike.

A line from my favorite comedian goes as follows after being asked about what to do once you've steped on a mine...

"Well, first, you jump a hundred feet into the air, then scatter yourself over a wide area."
