From one old Leatherneck to another, Welcome aboard, Adam!

The officers don't know it, and the sergeants won't admit it, but we corporals are the glue that holds the Corps together.

Damn, just remembered, a few days ago when another former Marine joined, I said that after the next one came aboard I should probably give my USMC bio again. So here goes (this is the short version):

I enlisted in Omaha in 1962 and went to Boot Camp at MCRD San Diego, where I graduated with Honor Platoon 355. Next came a month of infantry training at Camp Onofre, MCB Camp Pendleton. That was followed by a two year tour with the First Marine Brigade at MCAS Kaneohe Bay, Ohau, Hawaii. My MOS was 0311, rifleman. I was in third platoon, Lima Company, 3rd Battalion, 4th Marines, and rose to lance corporal fire team leader. (A fire team leader is supposed to be a corporal, but back then most were lance corporals.) Next up was a stint in the Provost Martial's Office at--are you ready for this, Adam?--MCAS Cherry Point, NC, where I was an MP. Hey, where else are you going to put an infantryman at in an air station? My last tour of duty was in the Republic of Viet Nam. There, I was in third platoon, India Company, 3rd Battalion, First Marines on operations out of Chu Lai until I was transferred to the Combined Action Platoon in Ky Hoa village. I was a fire team leader in I/3/1, so they promoted me to corporal--in the combat zone, they gave us the rank the billet called for. I left active duty in the same place I entered it; San Diego. I've been back there once since, for a CAP reunion.

Semper Fi!

nice bio David. Lets gather around him and listen to his stories in Nam and his stories in Boot camp.

Nice to meet you drakeserb1! Welcome aboard to this forum.
