Endorphins are a chemical hormone release by the body that rush the brain and give a euphoric sense. It is more commonly associated with the release of sexual tension, but can be brought on from various other activities such as Tattooing, body piercing, running etc.

I felt it when I got both my tats and when I had extreme adrenalin rushes coursing through me.

Endorphins also flow during stints of high creativity. But Eric's right, for most people, they're mainly experienced during sexual activity. For artists, a really good day's work is the equivalent of a really good lay.
