Interesting question

I have three questions for all of you?

1. Since it is not mentioned I take it there is no longer a Air Force?

2. Is Charlie Bass ever going to give with Big Barb again?

3. In "Hangfire" Claypoole was talking about getting married so whats up?

Just keep on writing guys the books are awesome.

Wing Wiper,

1. Nah, the army finally realized its error and reabsorbed the air farce. The army's air wing hasn't appeared yet, but we're only in our second joint campaign, and Marine and navy air have been enough.

2. Bass is pretty well wrapped up with Katrina now, and she's keeping a fairly close watch on him.

3. Whoa, dude! Claypoole wasn't talking about marriage. Jente is the one who decided he's prime husband material. Anyway, he can't get married until he reaches staff sergeant--Marine regs against marriage for junior enlisted and junior NCOs.

Why was the Army Air Corp turned into the Airforce again? I can't see any reasonable justification for splitting it off from the Army in the first place...

Guys correct me if I am wrong but it President Truman who signed the National Security Act of 1947 that seperated the Air Force from the Army and gave specific responsabilties i.e nuclear bombers later ICBMs and Space missions

It was the National Security Act of 1947 that created the "National Military Establishment" which on august 10, 1949 became the Department of Defense vice the War Department and the Army Air Corps became the Department of the Air Force.   Here's what it said:  "In general the United States Air Force shall include aviation forces both combat and service not otherwise assigned. It shall be organized, trained, and equipped primarily for prompt and sustained offensive and defensive air operations. The Air Force shall be responsible for the preparation of the air forces necessary for the effective prosecution of war except as otherwise assigned and, in accordance with integrated joint mobilization plans, for the expansion of the peacetime components of the Air Force to meet the needs of war."   I'm guessing but I think Congress drew up this legislation based on the fact that in the post-war era it was recognized that strategic air power would be vital to the defense of our country in the coming years of the Cold War and therefore, to ensure this was done, the old AAC was given status commensurate with that of the Army and Navy with its own Chief of Staff reporting directly to the Secretary of Defense.  Army & Navy retained certain air assets but the strategic air defense mission was given to the USAF.  Now in the Starfist Confederation that type of organization is not needed because the naval fleet provides strategic attack and defense capability and sometimes direct tactical support to ground forces although this is supplemented by the services' own sub-orbital attack craft.
