Greetings, Terrans
Posted: 05 Apr 06 3:17 PM

Ex-U.S. Navy sailor here, and believe it or not, I actually like the Marines.

I served briefly as a Journalist on USS Germantown, LSD-42, in 1997-1998. I liked the Marines a lot more than I did my fellow sailors, but I never had the right mindset for the military, and was discharged honorably (medical) in 1998.

Personally, I wouldn't want to be a Marine, but I sure wouldn't mind marrying a Lady Marine.

These days, I'm very very happily employed as a software engineer. I'm doing what I love doing, and I get paid to do it.

I've also written a non-fiction book of my own (JavaScript Developer's Dictionary, Sams Publishing, May 2002). I write amateur sci-fi stories when I have time, and they're generally well-received.

http://weblogs.mozillazine.org/weirdal for my weblog (warning: excessive technobabble content)

"Why do the keep Marines on Navy ships?"

"Because sheep would be too obvious!!!!"

Wow!  Another technogeek on board!  I try to stay away from JavaScript (I mainly take existing code and change it according to my particular needs -- almost or maybe exactly like a "script kiddie" -- so far as I can remember I have never written a JavaScript script from scratch in my life.  I are a programmer, however.  I work with MS .NET, writing primarily in C#.  Used to be a VB6 programmer and before that COBOL on an IBM mainframe was my bread and butter.

And oh yes: KB7IUJ de KD7UST!  Besides us, there is another Ham onboard, N1ETN, but I can't remember if he has chimed in on the forums yet or not.

AH...Dan, we may have some alien life forms posing as humans....better call the 34th FIST to check this out.  I can understand the demons from Demontech better.  Mike is talking about writing for kids and coffee?  I guess he likes writing the letter C while trying to catch ladies with his net?  The guy wants to put butter on his mainframe...this site is getting wierd!

Welcome to the party KB.
