OK then, you asked for it - here's all about me.

In fact, there are two people in my head, there's boring old Andrew, and Doctor Sinister himself.  :-)

Let's do Andrew first:

I'm 34, live in Basingstoke, but I've moved around the country a bit.  I'm married with two young children.  My job is incredibly boring, so we won't talk about that, but suffice it to say I've never served in the military - I'm just fascinated with it.  :-)

Interests?  Wow - where do I start?  I actually have far too many interests to list here, and more than can possibly be good for my wallet.  Mainly however I'm a lifelong sci-fi fan, in particular a British series called Doctor Who which started in 1963 and which is running even now.  I'm also a bit of a "fanboy" for military history and technology - by no means an expert, but I dabble.  Hence, military sci-fi is a real bonus when you find a good series to follow like this one.  I also write my own stories, but they are a bit rubbish, frankly.  I started working on a novel and got half-way through the first draft before real life intervened and I met my wife.  That was 6 years ago!

Oh, I also like to play with LEGO - in fact I have an entire town in my garage that I created.

There's loads more, but I don't want to bore you all.  :-)

I have a second "job" (which I love) as the Military History editor for the Armchair General (magazine) website - I've written over 50 articles for that website and as I mentioned before, I'm, one of the Admin' staff on their forums.  In case anyone is interested, here's a link to my online profile on the site - follow the articles link to see all the pices I've written - there are also loads of pictures of me with various bits of military equipment.  :-)

I dabble in photography (mainly for the articles I write) and generally find that there aren't enough hours in the day to cover everything I like to do.

As for "Doctor Sinister" - he's simply a slightly incompetent and insane evil supervillain who wants to rule the world.  I use that name as my handle everywhere, and he even has a regular column on the ACG website that I write every month.  Doctor Sinister's website is very much intended to be tongue-in-cheek.

To Dan - I can't really comment on how things have changed since 1960 I'm afraid, although things have changed since I've been around.  The Royal Family seems to have lost a lot of respect these days and there are lots of Z-list "celebrities" flaunting themselves on the TV which is a bit tiresome.  :-)  I guess the main thing that's different is that we are dictated to by Brussels these days as part of the EU, which a lot of people feel rather helpless about.  On the whole though, it's not a bad place to live, there are everyday frustrations of course, but who doesn't have those?  I often threaten to emigrate, but I think I'm too eccentric at times to be anything other than English through and through.

BTW, I am dead impressed that the authors of this fine series interact with their fans so much on this site - I really think that's great.

Hope this post didn't go on too long.  :-)

Dr. S.:  Thanks very much for sharing all that with us.  You know, both David and I are adamant that if it weren't for fans we'd be nowhere now, so having this chance to interact with them is delighfully refreshing for both of us.

So you can't get our books in the shops over there?  That's one of several big complaints we have about our publisher, they are stuck deeply in the mud and seem to know absolutely nothing about aggressive sales techniques, particularly foreign sales.  We keep querying them but to no avail.  At least LucasFilms regularly translates the StarWars stuff into both Japanese and German.

Visit us often here.  You'll find that the other contributors are highly motivated individuals and I think you'll quickly develop some worthwhile friendships among them.

Dr. S,

I have, of course, seen both _Citizen Kane_ and _Twelve Monkeys_, but where can I get my hands on a copy of _Revenge of the Surfboarding Mutant Killer Bikini Vampire Girls_? That sounds like the kind of movie I can really get my teeth into (pun intended). Why, it could rank right up there with such classics as _Army of Darkness_ (Ray Harryhousen, eat your heart out), _The Tomatos that Ate Cincinnatti_, _Slave Girls from Outer Space_, and _C.H.U.D. (Canabilistic Humanoid Underground Dwellers) I and II_

I'm afraid to say that's a bit of a joke I stole from an episode of Red Dwarf.  I may have the title slightly wrong, but it was basically a throwaway line in one of the episodes in series 6.  I took their throwaway line and recycled it.  It seemed to me just the sort of film an insane supervillain might enjoy, but alas, to my knowledge, there is no such film in existence.  Of course, who's to say we can't make it?  :-)

The C.H.U.D. films sound intriguing...

This is a problem I often encounter.  For example, I only stumbled across the David Weber books after a UK company published the first three over here.  But they stopped after that and I ended up ordering the US editions online.  Actually, I ordered them for a while from Amazon.com as the UK Amazon site didn't even list them!  However things are getting better, and now they do carry thjem dircectly it's easier, quicker by about a fortnight (and cheaper!).

Luckily, the UK Amazon site does list the Starfist series, I think they were recommended to me by Amazon based on some similar purchases I had made, but I have only ever seen them online and not once in the shops.

Forgive me if this has already been considered, but perhaps you could try approaching some UK publishers to see if you can get UK editions sold here?
