Soldris, Get your military hitch out of the way BEFORE you get married. You'll be much saner that way. Or, if you opt for a career, have a few years in before getting hitched. That way you're likely to marry someone a bit more mature and better able to cope with the stresses of being a military wife.

Yes, Thanks David, you truly are a well of wisdom. I was thinking exactly that. Have a quick enlistment when I'm out of high school, see if it;s turly what I want to do, go to university and either try to get comissioned, or find a new career.

Dan... David... I think Herr Soldris needs to wise up. There's no such thing as a quick enlistment!

Well, the world's changed so much since I enlisted maybe there is such a thing these days, but it used to be 3 or 4 years at the least.  Oh, you could join the Guard or Reserve and go on six months' active duty, then you'd have a 7-year service obligation in the Reserve Components with the option to enlist in the Regulars if you wanted.  That's what I tried to do but my first sergeant in Hq Btry, 105th AAA Brigade screwed around with the paperwork so long that when HS graduation time came he still hadn't gotten approval and I wasn't about to hang around town, so I went down to the recruiting office and signed up for three in the Regular Army-Oh. And for me those first three years flew by.

Well im going 6 years reserve then 2 active, so who knows. I thought the standard Marine contract was 8 years. I could be wrong, recruiters like to lie i hear.

I apologize TP, what I meant by quick was just one enlistment. The standard enlistment for the Canadian Forces is 3 to 5 years. Not neccessarily quick.
