Alisium,

Welcome aboard, Devil Dog! I served with L/3/4 at K-Bay back in the Old Corps, and in RVN with I/3/1 and then a CAP.

You can find out about Philcon at www.philcon.org.

Can't tell you how much it warms Dan's and my hearts when we hear from current/recent military, Marines in particular, that they like these books.

Semper Fi, Bro!

PS. You and I aren't the only Leathernecks here.

Yaaay, another bastard! I don't think the Marine Corps will ever give the 4th Marines the dignity of re-unification.

These are good solid books and I plan to go buy IV and V in a few minutes!

Again, thanks for the warm welcome!

"Ahh-uut!"

The Fourth Marines have a somewhat checkered history. They were the "China Marines" up to 1941, when they were moved to the Philippines, and the Sixth Marines took their place in China. The Fourth Marines is also the only Marine unit to have its colors surrendered in combat, which happened when Wainwright, on MacArthur's orders, surrendered all the US forces in the Philippines rather than allow some to head out to conduct guerrilla warfare. The regiment was awarded the Army Presidential Unit Citation for its role in the defense of Corregador. Later in WWII, the three Raider battalions were reorganized to reconstitute the Fourth Marines. The first Combined Action Units in Vietnam were stood up from the Fourth Marines. Unless I'm badly mistaken, 3/4 was stood down to provide the manpower for one of the LAV battalions. Pity. I went to war with the First Marines, but I identify with the Fourth Marines.

I'm the same way. I identify as a 1/4 Marine. "Whatever it Takes."

I remember walking into the wrong cp when I was checking in. A STA guy in the 1/1 batallion cp pointed me in the right direction. He offered his condolences, "Sorry devil, 1/4 has a reputaion, so stand by for 'f' 'f' games." And he was right! But, it made me hard and that's what counts.

Welcome Alisium!  I note that you are NW Washington -- I take it that means Washington state, as opposed to DC.  I, too, huddle under the same rain clouds.
