Dan and I met more years ago than I care to admit. He was a sergeant first class at the time, and I was still a sculptor. A friend of his from Rochester was a mahof in the Philadelphia library system, and a member of the Philadelphia Science Fiction Society--which is how I knew him. Dan was stationed in DC or Virginia and came up for a visit. The mutual friend introduced us. Dan was, and for all I know still is, a prodigious letter writer, and started a voluminous correspondence between us.

I'd love to do the Starfist site. I dunno who runs it, and not to talk about your skills or anything, it's just bland. It works, I just think I could spice it up some. Here's some of my work to look at.....

Pastime Gamers A Website for a City of Villians Clan 50TR A Work in progress.

I'm the one who runs it (as user name Sturgeon, appropriately enough), and I know it's bland, for which I apologize.  In order to make administration of the site more available for less technical folks, the site runs on the DotNetNuke platform (see DotNetNuke).  The content of the site is served up by the server, dynamically, rather than by static HTML.  I chose DNN partly because I am a MS .NET Framework programmer, and partly because running the site requires much less hands-on work --- that I don't have a lot of time to do.  If you have skills in developing DNN skins, please let me know.  You appear to be a bit more "artsy" than I, and perhaps you have some good ideas.

I've been thinking about "skinning" the site with a more appropriate decor, but it is not falling-off-a-log simple.  I've also been thinking about upgrading to a more current version of DNN, but I am afraid of hosing the whole thing up -- recovery is not so cut-and-dried.

In response to somebody's complaint about the Rich Text Editor -- I too dislike that it doesn't work well with Firefox.  FF is my preference, usually.  I'll see if I can find a better replacement.

Anyway, the word "busy" describes me at the moment, but I will try to jazz things up a bit.

Mike, I mentioned it in my thread in this forum but I absolutely love vBulletin.  The website I work for uses it and with a good group of people watching for spambots, it's very easy to use and works flawlessly with Firefox and IE.
