Actually, I think I read somewhere the Apaches did not scalp. They did other things nobody would want to go through, but who started scalping their victims and when has been quite a controversy among historians. It seems this was practiced by both Europeans and Indians during the very early years of contact, like in the 16th century. Some argue the Europeans learned it from the Indian tribes, others that Europeans imported the idea.
But I think what the Beanman meant was he almost lost his hair from pulling it out in frustration over the relationship since the Beanman always keeps his shit, like his reefers, very rightly rolled.
