Posted: 28 Oct 06 10:21 PM NUTS was a mid-20th century slang word, and would it be common or even something anyone would know about a few hundred years later?  Probably not.  Though military folks would likely remember their history, and perhaps Cazombi and Lyons both would be aware of that classic answer.  I expect that had Cazombi made that particular response, Lyons would likely have recognized it -- and probably would have recognized Cazombi's intent. armyblank 200 posts Joined 10/22/2006 Re: Nuts!! Posted: 29 Oct 06 3:48 AM MC:  Good points.  We just didn't think of McAuliffe's reply to the Germans at Bastogne or we'd have used it!  And you bet, Lyons would've known just what "Nuts!" meant, any professional soldier would recognize the famous reply even 400 years after it was given.
