OK BOYS, last thread in here was 10 days ago. Let's get this party started again! I just finished the book...WOW. I plan on 'threading' so much your gonna call me The Seamstress!
I agree w/ jackmahan. That scene with Coranado & Owen was bumming me out. Hadn't felt that bad since E.T. told Elliot he had to go. Great Force Recon question Jack. Nice crossover with the Force Recon gentlemen. I would have loved it if Sturgeon turned to the camera and said: "Force Recon: Backshot, now available where great paperbacks are sold!" Ok, maybe Claypool would have said that.
Kingdom was 3 books and this one is already 2...thanks for leaving us hanging for another 8 months guys. Looks like I have plenty of time to work on that Character Tree eh? I've always wondered how you guys kept all these characters straight? Funny thing is, in all other series' I've read, their are, at most, a half a dozen main characters. In this one, you guys really put a lot of work into dozens of characters that, at anytime, could be one of the main ones. That is a stellar job gentlemen! That's why I think this Character Tree is so important b/c these characters grow so much and do so much. Heck, how many people remember Wellington-Humphries from Book 3 where Dean, Wolfman, & Owen saved her from St.Cyr? It's crazy sh*t like that that keeps us hooked on this series. Each new book tags so many memories of past characters in past books. Now that's a damn good job gentlemen, since this series is almost 10 years old & we have to wait 8 months for every new book. Dang, listen to me sounding like your number one fan. Don't worry, I don't know where you live....or do I? =)
David: Love the statement: "For reasons unknown to either Dan or me, Dean dropped her for Carlala." Talk about a character taking on a life of his own.
Deadshot
Reminds me about something Jerry Pournelle said once. I don't know how many of those who tune in here are familiar with Jerry Pournelle's Janissairies series, but it resembles Starfist in one way at least, in the sense that it is military science fiction written by a combat veteran. Pournelle was a US Army artilleryman during the Korean War, an NCO until he received a battlefield commission as a 2nd Lieutenant. The Janissairies series deals with a so-to-speak US Army platoon-sized unit fighting in a CIA operation that is kidnapped by aliens and taken to subjugate a place populated by humans who have medieval technology at best. His comment was that by the third book some of the characters seemed to be writing their own scenes, and he joked that he was hesitant to argue with men who were so well armed!
Ok Mike, looks like a good series. Scoped it out on Amzon. I know I've seen the cover before. I'll check the local used bookstores for the series (since I have 8 months till a new STARFIST). Thanks for the tip. Always looking around for a good SpaceOpera.
