Well, now that I fully understand what I was missing, I have a question that all of you might cringe over: What if the the Skinks attack durring this war on some other planet? I mean, you just can't pull a fully engaged unit off the line, pack it up, and send it off to fight somewhere else. I don't know about the Authors, but it seemed to me that he 26th FIST or what not wasn't as good as the our guys on Kingdom, but I have a feeling that they were put under the same quarentine as the 34th. It's simply bad form to do stuff like that. And here's another thing that I thought was odd... How far into human space was Kingdom, anyway? If thr Skink Invasion Force got through several layers of Inhabited space, it is possible that they could attack really deep into human space, like say... Earth, for instance? There is a lot of empty space, and from what I can ather, you can't see a ship when it's going through beam space...
Now that I think about it, you are right. Billie goes on to say that it would take about one month to get his scrawny doggie rear-end from Terra to Ravenette... And on page 87 of the same hard back, it said that it would take 30 days for the Doomsdaydrone to get to Earth. Then on page 90, Cazombie said in the drone that 'I estimate that at our present level or of combat we may succeed in holding this place from six to eight weeks.' Subtract the three weeks from that for the travel time from Cazombie to the Prez, a week or so for the mulling around and extra days for random problems and delays, and then maybe thirty days from 'Asshole' to the jump point where all the ships of the gator fleet stood... You have maybe one week to spare given Cazombies' original drone message. And given what is written in almost every book about beamspace, it seems that apart from the Skinks who use a different system, they have to go the standard 6.whatever lightyears per day no matter where they are going. As for the errors, where would we be if we didn't have them to pick our brains over them? Hell, it's not like we have a stellar map like in the Battle Tech books. I think it adds to the mystery of Human Space. Besides, flat maps just don't do anyone any good when dealing with 3D situations unless it's from an Earth point of view and the number of lightyears away from us... then we could use Trig to find out the rest, which I would gladly do to clear things up. (hint hint hint)
