Deadshot,

Yes, the FIST commander does have some latitude on promotions, but it's mostly in the lower enlisted ranks. He also has the option of appointing a senior NCO to fill a junior officer billet, as he did when he gave third platoon to then-Gunny Bass. Him forcing a commission on Bass was pretty much a special occasion, mostly because he was given special authority to commission ensigns without sending them to Officer Candidate College. Poor Charlie is currently stuck being an ensign, which rank he sees as junior to gunnery sergeant.

Thanks David.  I believe he gave Bass that spot in the first book, even when that punk Barraccio came in.  With the Skink issue, I assume Aguinaldo will send a message to Sturgeon giving him more power to promote since no one can leave.  Although, the rumblings around the HQ, as well as in the book, suggests the Skink issue might be opened to the public.  Care to comment on that?  Hmmmm.....

Just to let you know, the Claypoole Fanclub is going strong.  We've surpassed the fanbase of the Kerr Fanclub and are closing in on the Doyle Fanclub.
