Paramarine eh? hmmm I was thinking of making that a part of my WW2 4th Marine Division impression, they want me as a "Fire" or Gun team leader and to create a backstory I figured I couldn't dig back to the China Marines since I'm a bit young looking for that... but could easily have been with Edson as a Paramarine or even a Raider on Bloody Ridge at Guadal, then picked as Cadre for the 4th Division.

Its a bit slow right now in the beginning talking about the organization plans in the late 40s-early 50s a bit dry but it seems to be picking up. And I think he was the right Marine to write the book, seems he was in the perfect place to view what was going on

The Paramarines only had one operation, I forget how they were redesignated. Krulak was very much the right man in the right place on several occasions. Too bad he was given FMFPac instead of MAC(V), the Vietnam War would have turned out very differently. Krulak had a deep understanding of counter-insurgency warfare, Westmoreland had spent his entire career training to stop the Soviet army at the Fulda Gap.

Why was Congress trying to Disband the Marines? My dad tells me that the Marines on his ship "USS Saratoga", provided security for his ship and that if the NVA were ever to try and board his ship, the Marines would stop them and kill all of them. But why disband the Marines? Book three "StarFist: Steel Gauntlet" reminded me of Normandy because the Marines had to wait a while for the Army to Finally come down. Like  how the paratroopers had to wait for the main invasion force to land and take the beaches.

Are the Skinks modled after any enemy the U.S. has fought aganist? This is just me, but they remind me of the Japanese of WW2.

Re the question of why disband the Marines. The question is sometimes raised, why do we need two armies? And budget conscious congress critters sometimes question why it costs more to train a Marine than it does to train a soldier, sailor, or airman, and ask why should we bear that expense. Ultimately, the answers are in the intangibles.
