Most of my non-SF reading is mysteries, though I do slip in the occasional palentology, other science, or military history/theory book. As for specific authors:

Donald E. Westlake (IMHO the best living American writer)
Ed McBain (also wrote as Evan Hunter)
Elmore Leonard (I learned an awful lot about writing by reading him)
Lawrence Shames (set in Florida)
Tim Dorsey (also Florida)
Ellis Peters' Brother Cadfael series
John D. MacDonald (IMHO the best American writer of the second half of the 20th Century)
Dan Simmons is probably best known for his SF, but he's also written other novels that are worth checking out.

That's more than enough to hold you for awhile.

For your information Dan and David, I Tunes has the first 10 StarFist Books on audio. Just wanted to let you know.

Thanks, Skink. That's an audio outlet I didn't know about. Our royalty statements only say how many audiobook downloads sold, not their sources. It's the same with ebooks; only the total number sold, nothing about format or outlet.
