Movies

I just watched Flags of Our Fathers this morning.  It was surprisingly good.  Very few (can't even really remember them) things that got on my nerves.  It is truly thought provoking.  Although it is not so much about the battle for Iwo Jima, it is about what is meant to be a hero.  The one thing that is a little annoying and stuck with me is that the movie is a little too disjointed.  It tells the story by switching between the war scenes and the bond drive scenes and a few present day scenes.  Other than that, it was a good movie.  Everyone should see it.  It is a little long (2 hours with more talk than action).

Ghost, thanks for the review.  The movie's on my list.  I think the problem with a lot of movies is in the editing.  That's no doubt where the disjoining you mentioned came from..  We have to watch that in our own series.  It can come from trying to tell too many subplots at once and can be very aggravating.

I saw it on friday with my freind Mike, and just as we left the theater, we were repeating the same curse words over an over again... for about fifteen minutes.

I told him afterwords, "I really don't understand why people are against my dream when they see things like that. Wouldn't it be nice if we could just... Oh, I don't know, conquer the world, and make sure madmen like that don't start anymore wars?"

History Channel has a great piece on that battle.  Worst job to have: Flame Thrower!  Didn't know that battle had the most CMH's.  Also, as my father-in-law the Marine reminds me, the Marines controled the Pacific in WWII.  They held off the Japs while da Army cruised around Europe.

Deadders:  Not quite.  There were army elements involved on Iwo Jimal (164th Inf. Regt., 25th Inf. Div., Americal Div.) and the Southwest Pacific was controlled by MacArthur who liberated New Guinea and  the Philippines (I & XI Army Corps).
