I agree w/ your logic Mike, and so does Da Marine (that's what i'm going to call my father-in-law now).

Hmmm...at that time I didn't think the U.S. had enough ARMY to go around so FDR focsed on Europe (for a couple of reasons which are obvious).  Plus the U.S. needed time to rebuild the Pacific Navy.  I always thought it was the Marines job to hold onto the Pacific till the European Campaign winded down & they could shift troops over for the invasion of Japan (which did happen...troop build up that is).  Marines major advancement (setting up airbases) coupled w/ da Atom Bomb helped change that invasion idea I'm gussing.

Also, MacArthur's idea of FIRST taking China is crazy considering the amount of troops needed.  Where is his pipe anyway?  EBAY?

Another interesting question concerning MacArthur is .... should we have used da Atom Bomb on the Chinese during Korea?  Da Marine thinks so!

GO BEARS!!!

You will recall that Japan had an army in China from 1935 on and we established the China-India-Burma theater, under Vinegar Joe Stillwell, expressly to support Chaing's war against the Japs.  "Flying the Hump," from India into China, was a major lifeline for Chaing's forces.  Stillwell despised Chaing, referred to him as "Peanut" all the time.  Incidentally, the commies stayed mostly out of that fight.  Vinegar Joe's son, "Vinegar Joe, Jr.," was in Vietnam, 1962-1963, as a brigadier general.  He lived up to his father's reputation.  Once during a helicopter flight one of the pilots asked him if he'd like a weapon, in case they had to make an emergency landing.  He replied, "Son, I haven't carried a weapon in 20 years and if I need one now I'll get it off a dead VC!"  A couple of years later he was returning to Vietnam, piloting his own transport, when it went down somewhere over the Pacific and everyone on board was lost at sea.

I had an uncle who married into the family and flew (I think it was) a Piper Cub as a mock-mercinary against the Nips, err... Japanese in (I think) '37... Yeah, that was cool.
