Heinlen's Starship Troopers is a must, but has anyone read any of his other works? I'm interested in reading Stranger in a Strange Land, but haven't seen anything about it.

Stranger in a Strange Land is definitely not military sci-fi.  Heinlein was definitely off in a strange land when he wrote this.  He really had to edit a lot of stuff out that he wanted in -- the publisher wouldn't take it otherwise.  Michael Valentine Smith is the protagonist who was raised by Martians (non-humans) after being born in the first human colony on Mars.  He is brought back by a followup expedition, and proceeds to found a new "religion" on Earth.  This was Heinlein's "counter-culture" novel.  But it was actually closer to what Heinlein really thought and felt than his previous books.  After this book he wrote quite differently.

Dudette, I thought the Ringo series was awesome.  Loved the characters & plot.  The aliens were interesting & sub plots solid.  The Forever War huh?  I'll have to look into it.  I'll post my Loves list soon.  Right now my 'reading till new Starfist/Force Recon' is the Honor series.  Very good stuff but I expect nothing less from Weber.  Deadshot

I don't know, it wasn't necessarily the characters or the plots that turned me off.  It was more Ringo's writing style.  It just did not capture my attention.  Same with Weber.  I tried the Honor series and while the story was interesting, Weber's writing style just doesn't grab onto me.

No kidding, huh.  Love both their works.  Oh well.  William Dietz "Death Day" & "Earth Rise" are good as well as Ian Douglas "Heritage Series-Space Marines."  I also like Chris Bunch's "Star Risk" & "Last Legion" Series.  I really want to pick up the "Forever War."

I actually hated "The Forever War". I hated it because it distorted humanity into something which was quite frankly enough to make me retch. (Not the main characters, though.)

What about Rick Shelley's Dirigent Mercenary Corps books? I kinda like those.
