Well consider his context of writing... America during Vietnam=humanity (the pointless war that was started for no reason and no one knows who really started it) and from his point of view... The view of Earth during his short visit, I believe represents the alienation (forgive the pun) that Service Members had on return to "The World." I see it as sci-fi and satire of Vietnam America as well....
DMC? My dad has the first 3 and has read them... I think he likes them...
LOVE Rick Shelley's books. Read the whole series. Really good stuff. Liked how you could follow Lon's carreer. His old stuff is ok..ie Jump Pay ect. Read the first two of the new series SpecOps. Not bad but lost interest. Thanks for reminding me.
Deadshot
The DMC novels by Shelley are great reads and Starship Troopers is a classic. Here are a couple other suggestions that you might want to check out as well:
Armor, by John Steakley
Halo novels, currently there are three in the series. Based on the video game.
There is a Star Wars series that falls in line with Jedi Trial. The Republic Commando series. The first one is written by Karen Traviss.
Armor was cool. Very freaky, but cool. I think I had some questions when I was done reading it. Very heavy feeling if that makes any sense.
Bolos were alright. Read quite a few of those books in the '90s.
Not huge StarWars (books) fan. Although the Tim Zahn "Cobra" series was really good.
Halo huh? I've never played the game but would be interested in the books.
Love the STARRISK series by Chris Bunch. Good stuff...great characters. His Last Legion series is also fantastic! Good concept and great characters.
Hey, we have to find something to read b/w StarFist books. I'm currently devouring the Honor Harrington series. I dig it.
Just out of curriocity, how many of you have actually read Starship Troopers?
