One Shot - One Kill by Charles W. Sasser and Craig Roberts.  This book is a combination of personal accounts and research.  The authors interviewed snipers from both the US Army and the US Marine Corps.  The times covered are World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, and the experience of the Marines in Beirut.  Some of the chapters are the personal accounts of these snipers and other chapters are analysis of information the authors found in their research.  It is a very interesting book for those interested in learning more about snipers.

Another good military history book that I just finished reading:  Guns Up! by Johnnie M. Clark.  He was a gunner (M60) in Vietnam for one tour.  This is his personal account, with a little bit of other Marines' stories mixed in.  There are many references to religion though, but it isn't really preachy (ya know pushing the Bible).  The book is well written and flows easily.  It was an interesting read.

Flags of Our Fathers is the story of the Marines who raised the second flag atop Mt. Surabachi on Iwo Jima for the photo that the journalist took.  There was a flag raised before it but the flag was too small (according to the brass) and the journalist wasn't there the first time.  The book is written by the son of one of the flag raisers.  It gives a brief life history of each of the Marines and what happened to them after the war.

I don't know if the movie that comes out this October will cover everything in the book and how true it will be to the book.

Thanks.  One of those guys was Ira Hays, I believe, who died tragically after the war.  In fact I think all those guys ended their lives tragically.  If the movie is true to the actual events it could be a very powerful film.

And when the fight was over
And when Old Glory raised
Among the men who held it high
Was the Indian, Ira Hayes
