I think the Marine you are talking about was Mr. Bradley's (the author of Flags of Our Fathers) father. I could be wrong though. I forgot when Mr. Bradley Sr. died.

The author interviewed veterans and read action reports in order to build this book. The book covers everything from the first landing wave to the invasion of Okinawa. He includes the mistakes that were made, as well as the great deeds commited by the Marines.

That was a very good book.read it last year during my first hour everyday. my teacher got very pissed at me but it was worth it even if my math grade suffered.
