I can't believe I haven't posted in this thread yet. I've got one that you guys should love.
Firebirds by Chuck Carlock.
The book was written by the brother of a former hockey coach. He was a chopper pilot/gunner in Vietnam and it's a great recounting of a number of his stories. He's not the most amazing writer but still puts vivid detail into his stories and actually has quite a few funny tales in the book. Definitely a worthwhile read for any military/former military type or just a military fanatic (I think that just about covers anyone who'd be on this site).
Very sorry to read that.
I actually bought his book as an afterthought from the Military Book Club and am very glad I did. It has really helped me an my understanding on how PMC's work and what the next step our military should take. It's also helped me rebuff comments from knee-jerk types who whine about "mercs". It's a great book and an even better introduction in to a very fascinating world.
I wish Mr. Lanning all the best.
