Hemry). I read the first book in manuscript. I don't much care for space opera, but John's a damn good writer, and his Jack Campbell books don't read like space opera to me. Hemry) is a retired navy lieutenant commander--one who has a great respect for enlisted men. Dan and I have both been on panels with him at SF conventions. He's a good guy, a good writer, and he knows his military.
