I came across a book titled "Fitzpatricks War" by Theador Judson, or what not, and I devouered it in a day. It was a good few hundred pages thick, and it's a narrative... But it's still good.
The lowdown is thus:
The Canadians over-run Northen America some time in the next two hundred years with EMP guns, and they force the world to go back about say... early 1900's-esque technologies but with 'moderen' non-electronic weapons. It's all pretty sad, but it's also kind of, how shall one say... envigorating?
Anyway, it's been about a hundred years or so, and the Canadians (calling themselves the Yukon Confederacy, which is very feudalistic) have three major enemies The Turkic Empire, The Chinese, and everyone south of the current border. India is totaly under their thrall, and all of Europe minus Limey-land and the rest of the atlantic Islands is under the controll of the Turks. (Limeyland has been repopulated by Canadians)
It is at this time that one fuedal family starts to take controll of the whole confederacy and launches on a campaign to conquer the world...
It's an awesome book, filled with realistic characters, and it's been written as if it had been re-eddited by a schollar for the people of the 24th century, who are much more... urbane? then the current norm. It's a doozy, and I think if you read it, you'll want to keep it.
It's not really an EMP gun, but then again, it was supposed to work in tandem. After all, you can't defend EVERY vital circut everywhere.
But I was thinking the same thing when I got to that point, but then again, it was a really good book.
To boil down the inflation, I'd say about the cost of ten right-of-the-line premium sniper rifles...
