You get kicked off jury duty once the lawyers asked if you have associated with any personnel involve in this case. Geez, well look at the bright side at least you get time work on your book and have lots of free time for some leisure and recreational time.
Is your son in the police force? I thought he was in the army or marines.
Yes, Tam served over 20 years in the Reserve after he got off active duty at the end of the First Gulf War; as a Reservist went to Bosnia for six months and to Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom. In civilian life he's a police officer.
Getting dismissed from criminal cases the last time I went up for jury duty didn't help because I was selected for a jury in a civil case that lasted more than two months, the Upper Occoquan Sewage Authority vs. the construction firm of Blake, Poole, and Kent, who were suing the Authority for wittholding payment on their contract to expand the capacity of the Occoquan Sewage Treatment facility, the outfit that supplies drinking water to Fairfax County, VA. Involved millions, most of which we awarded to the construction company because the county didn't make its case stick. We sat through endless hours of testimony involving how shit is processed to make it harmless. The jury consisted of six women and little ol' me. They turned out to be some of the brightest people I've ever worked with even though none of us knew shit about shit. We had so much fun raising hell in the jury room during deliberations the judge had to send the bailiff in to ask us to keep it down.
Be sure you're on the jury and not sitting before it.
