A fitting end to such a... Poetic song.

The Translation fits, as much as any translation can. Where'd you find the lyrics? Been looking for the whole song for a while, and all I have memorized is the first part.

Ob Sturm oder Schneit,
Ob die Sonne uns lacht,
Der Tag gluhend heiss,
Oder eiskalt die nacht,
Bestaub sind die gesichter
Doch froh ist unser Sinn,
Ja, unser Sinn!
Es braust unser Panzer
Im sturmwind dahin!

And yes, I CAN sing it.

TP:  There's a site, 20,000 Volkslieder, you can bookmark.  It has "folk" songs in German and English as well as other languages.  Check the German WWII section.  My main complaint about the translation here is that it doesn't quite exploit the meaning of "ein ehernes Grab," the concept of the "honorable death" in the service of people and fatherland, a theme that recurs very often in German soldier lieder.  That was exploited skillfully by song writers during the Third Reich (the Panzerlied was written about 1935) but the theme is very old going back at least as far as the time of Frederick the Great and perhaps even back as far as the pre-Christian era.  It was immortalized in songs like "Morgen Rot" and "Ich Hatt' Einen Kameraden" and so on.  German Soldaten Lieder is a hobby of mine.  I have dozens of period songbooks, WWI & WWII vintage as well as dozens of CDs remastered from original recordings.  Send me your address and I'll mail you an original Liederbuch der Wehrmacht so when you're half snookered you can sit on your porch and sing the Panzerlied or "Erika" for the enjoyment & edification of your neighbors.  (One of the best sources for period musical recordings is Tomahawk Films.  Tell 'em I sent you.)
