So how many books will there be again?

I must admit, I burst out laughing reading page 12, when I hit upon the line "... and all twenty-two volumes of the Starfist series..." and the rest of that self-congratulating paragraph. I startled quite a few people on the bus with that laughter.
I'm thinking to myself, come on, guys... great in-joke, by the way. Just don't do it again in any other Starfist books! :-D
In DemonTech IV, yeah...
Good book, by the way. I rather liked the ending, but now there's more backstory to tell.

Well, we did that just for the effect we thought it'd have on readers -- great, big laughs! Glad it succeeded! Funny thing is though how some readers have no sense of humor. Just got off amazon.com and some guy on there is really upset at us for what he calls "self-promotion" and he cites the same scene you do. There was also this guy in Germany who got really upset with us because in SCHOOL OF FIRE we invented some funny German names, Misthaufen, for example, as the Wanderjahr ambassador to the Confederation. "Misthaufen" means "manuer pile" in German.

I just read his review...what an ass! We like you guys and appreciate the humor in the books. Obviously someone who has never been in the military cause he is from a country of desserters!

Well, c'mon, now, Eric, we can't say nasty things about a guy just because he doesn't know his buttocks from his elbow and eats other people's dingleberries!

I got a big laugh out of the 22 volumes of Starfist, too. Shameless self-promotion? Why not?
The Wanderjahr thing with the funny German names was, to me at least, part funny, part annoying. I am fluent in German, so it was definitely difficult to keep a serious attitude about the Wanderjahrian ambassador, for example, with a name like that. It made him just about comic-opera -- however, I think that was the entire idea.
