The current contract expires when we turn RECOIL in, I think.  It's been so long since I read the contract I'm not even sure now if we had a separate one for the force recon books.  If we did, then Starfist expired with the submission of FIRESTORM.  David does better keeping track of these things than I do.  We will keep you posted.

No, old friend, it isn't a done deal.  The renewal is currently under consideration but we haven't heard anything back from our publisher.  The series is making money, no doubt about that, but these days in publishing it's how much money a book makes that determines if the author(s) will be invited to continue.  It isn't like the old days when David and I first broke into publishing, when a single editor could get the green light to publish an author and in fact "carry" authors whose stuff didn't earn out but whose writing they felt had quality.  We are keeping our digits folded.

I had a breif flash of thought at that... And now it returns. Ha'e you considered that, way back when, when the writers were encouraged to write, it was for the sake of literature AS WELL AS money? These days, it's writing for the sake of money, what with literature growing only insofar as it can make money?
